Border Blocks to Play with any Panel
By Carla Klop
The Unconventional Quilter
To quote Panel Play’s author, Carla Klop, “Some might say you are cheating when you use a panel, as you didn’t design, piece, or appliqué all the individual colors. But just go back to the only rule in quilting - do exactly what you want and send a big raspberry to the detractors. This book is all about dressing up a panel for the center of your quilt by adding intricate-looking borders made with blocks”.
Panel Play features shortcut sheet methods. These methods, created by the author, are ways to make the units that go into quilt blocks more quickly than traditional methods. Seven methods are described in this book, and each is explained in detail. Traditional and original blocks are used with the panels. Page 40 of Panel Play covers working with panels, preparing the panel for borders, matching your panel choice to one of the patterns in this book, sizing the panel, and coping the borders to fit your block size.
Included in Panel Play, are photographs of each quilt at an historical location in the town of LaBelle, Florida, where the author resides and hosts quilt retreats 3 out of 4 weeks a month for 6 lucky participants.
