For those of you who are new to the Guild or are only vaguely aware of the origins and intent of the Retreat Scholarship, I would like to give you a little history.
The KPQG has a Retreat Savings Account that over the years has accumulated extra funds. In 2015 our KPQG Treasurer, Jody Nelson, came up with an idea to share these funds with the guild membership. Jody proposed the Scholarship as a way of sharing the excess funds (similar to the PFD Fund). The distribution of the Scholarship not only is of financial benefit to our members but continues to foster the art of quilting through education, and service to our communities through charitable work.
It has been a successful program. At the October meeting, two names will be drawn from all those who have paid their membership dues for the year. The drawing award is for 1 retreat registration, 1 retreat t-shirt, and 2 nights single occupant room rate. Once the person’s name is drawn, they are not eligible for the drawing for another five years. If the person wants to gift to another person, they may do so by January 1st, but then both the person drawn and the person given the gift become ineligible for five years.
