Though the temperatures didn’t reflect it, spring was documented here by migrating birds returning as scheduled, mama and baby moose trotting around, and by quilters who spent the winter elsewhere returning, telling stories and showing the projects they’d made. We were also happy to see several members of our group doing well after surgeries and hospitalizations they’d had during the winter and early spring.
The Mother’s Day quilt show, put on by the Lion’s Club at the Elks Lodge, was fabulous as usual. Several of our members won viewers’ choice awards. Congratulations to everyone who displayed quilts and smaller items at the show!
On Thursday, May 14, we had two major events. First was a Quilts of Valor presentation to Peter Resetarits, a Homer native, who retired from the army after twenty-one years of service, his last assignment being in Okinawa, Japan. His family also attended the ceremony held at Kachemak Center during our quilters’ meeting, led by Karrie, his service report read by Patrice, and his quilt made by Margaret Lau.
Next, at noon we had a going-away party for Glenda Rosenbalm, who was moving to Florida to live near her son. We will miss Glenda, her sewing wisdom, and her special brand of humor! We hope that you enjoy your life in sunny Florida, Glenda.
Enjoy the warmer days and quilt on!
