Seward News

Spring has arrived in Seward, and almost all of the vast mountains of snow are gone from the yards.  We sure got plenty this winter.

Our winter woes were eased by multiple mini retreats at Seward Resort.  They opened up to a limited number at first, and of course had their COVID criteria, but wow it was a good feeling to be among friends.  Sheila worked closely with the lodge to secure two or three long weekends per month.  There were also retreaters from Anchorage who came down to enjoy a good long weekend of sewing together.  The limit started at 10, and by the end we were up to 20.  Thank you to Sheila for organizing all this for us!  We so appreciate her work securing spaces for us.

Several of our tribe are finished with Kids in Pajamas, with a whole herd of cute kids.  The next sew-a-long will be Dino (I'm thinking dinosaurs?).

Seward is moving forward with our veteran quilts.  So far, we've delivered 75 + to the American Legion, who is in charge of distribution.  Perfect partnership.  We're grateful to have them do this.  Our gang keeps on sewing tops, and turning them in, where they are given to a longarmer (along with donated backing and batting).  The longarmer is donating their service as well.  And we have Donna doing the binding, label, and getting ready to head out the door.  We're thinking of maybe doing another day of making tops.  The last time we did that we really jumped ahead on our numbers.  Fun day!

Of course, besides going into spring (almost said summer!), we do take out time to get back to our machines.  With Grace's Anniversary B.O.M., we have a nice project to commit a little time to.  In Seward we're doing a paper pieced B.O.M. through Sew'n Bee Cozy.  That's fun.  Everyone has their favorite online things going.  Many have taken up the Gudrun Erla patterns, and loving every minute.

Whatever it is you're doing this year, be it classes, travel, gardening, remodeling, reading, etc., take a little time to stitch a block together, or get together with your quilting friends.  Be present in your life, and the lives of those you love.
