President’s Report

    I hope you are all enjoying your summer.  Everyone is very busy with summer events, fishing, gardening, company, travel.  I hope we are all taking a little time to pet the fabric, at least.
    At this writing, we’ve had two of the three Guild sponsored classes.  The third will be later in August, and I’m sure it will be just as fun as the other two.  Pretty great to have the opportunities that we do.  Plus, spending time with a great group of quilters is always a bonus.  Our trunk shows were well attended, and that’s in part thanks to all of you for getting the word out, and inviting your friends.  Thank you!  Make sure to see Nancy Mathew’s trunk show on Friday the 23rd.  See more about that in the Vice President/Education Chair report.
    We had a productive Executive Board meeting and Budget meeting earlier in August.  Quite a bit of it was housekeeping, fine tuning of S.O.P.’s (Standard Operating Procedures) for a couple different positions.  The Retreat S.O.P. had some guidelines to add, and had some expenditures to bring up for approval.   See the Retreat News later in this newsletter.  We have been working on creating a new position - the Public Information Officer.  Later in this newsletter you’ll see notice of By-Law Changes to create this position.  This position has been a long time in coming, and Jan Wallace has volunteered for this position.  She will be a natural.  The position will be initiating communication by contacting other Guilds, fabric shops, art centers, and National groups such as AQS.  She will then bring any information about classes, shows, etc. to our membership.  Her articles in the Newsletter will be a reflection of what’s available to the membership in the six months following publication.  She will also update our Facebook page and the Guild Website with pertinent information, and items of interest.  This will give the membership a valuable resource at their fingertips.   Hopefully this will let everyone plan their quilty activities, and avoid conflict of events.  
    Our General Membership Meeting is on Saturday, October 5th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna. This meeting is very popular, since the Retreat will be front and center.  I KNOW the Homer quilters have much planned for all of us!
    Getting Ready for Christmas is Saturday, November 2nd, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna.  See Karrie Youngblood’s report for details on what each of the three areas of the Peninsula will be teaching, and what you need to bring.
    It’s hard to think of this fabulous summer coming to an end, but the anticipation of so much fun to come will carry us along!  Happy Stitching!
