I am very excited to be the new Vice President/Education Chair. I am looking forward to seeing who we can bring in for our 2021 and 2022 teachers. We are looking at a couple of exciting teachers that we hope to bring. The education committee is committed to bringing in a couple national teachers and to utilize our very talented Alaskan teachers. November 2 is” Getting Ready for Christmas”, held at the Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna beginning at 10 am.
Linda Wagner from the Kachemak Bay Quilters will be teaching a quilted canning jar lid.
QUILTED CANNING JAR LIDS
Supplies:
1 wide mouth canning jar ring
1 wide mouth canning jar lid
4 ½ x 4 ½ inch cardboard square cut from a soda/beer carton or heavy card stock for each lid (this will be provided for you)
Piece of paper for template
2 ½ inch fabric squares
Squares: 4 groups of 8 2 ½ inch squares
Each group a different contrasting or coordinating color
Small prints or solid colors fabric
Example: 4 different Christmas fabrics: Red, Green, White, Gold.
Liquid crafting glue like Elmer's or fabric glue. Glue stick will not work.
Scissors for cutting through cardboard and layers of fabric
Pen or Pencil; Small Iron
Seward Project:
Pocket hot pads.
Fabric Requirements:
(These quantities easily make one pair of hot pads)
2 coordinating fat quarters
Batting 18” x 22”
One 9” x 10” piece of Insulbrite
1 yard bias binding for ease
This also lends itself to using scraps. Largest: 5” x 9”, smallest 5” x 3"
Central Peninsula Project:
Jeans-Leg Bag - Can be used as a gift bag for herb vinegar or wine or other bottle gift or can be a stuff bag
Cut at least 20" from leg of an old pair of jeans (children’s jeans will make a much smaller bag)
4 or 5 belt loops from the jeans or make equivalent loops
24" of cording or ribbon
Size 90 or 100 jeans needle
For the 2020 summer teachers we have the following line up:
June 26/27 Barb Steckel will be teaching a technique using a plastic template set that you can create many different blocks from. More details to come.
Brenda Clyde will be teaching a class in July, dates and quilt to be determined.
Dana Lewis will be our featured instructor for August 2020 (date to be determined). Your Education Committee has selected a Chic Sisters Pattern by Sew Kind of Wonderful. This pattern uses the Quick Curve Ruler. There are many patterns that use this ruler and some of you may already own this particular ruler. This class will be taught on the first day (always a Friday) and you may continue to work on this Chic Sisters Pattern on the second day or take the Scalloped Borders class Dana will be teaching on Saturday. Class participants will create scalloped borders of their choice. You may bring a quilted quilt or use pre-quilted fabric to explore a variety of scalloped edges. The class will learn inside and external corners. If a quilt is not ready for scalloping, then pre-quilted fabric can be made into placemats or table runners.
