VP/Education Report

by Nancy Mathew and Barb Eagle

Hello Quilters,

Many years ago I saw a T-shirt that read:

Alaska has 4 seasons: early winter, mid-winter, late winter, and next winter!  Seems really true this year!  On the flip side, greenhouses and gardens must be going strong!

There is one (1) class still on the docket for this year, Metro Rings, taught by Shonda Powell, September 11 and 12. We are really excited about this opportunity for everyone.  There are just a few spots available, so don’t delay.  It’s $60, payment holds your space and gives you a Supply List!  You can contact me by email: akguyngal@gmail.com.

It was to our disappointment we had to cancel the June and August classes with Peggy Gelbrich and Pam Ventgen, due to below minimum numbers.  We really appreciate those who signed up and are hopeful of making patterns available.  We will keep you posted.  Contact us if you were scheduled for Pam’s Green Glass Door class and we will forward the pdf pattern information.

We do understand busy summer schedules, added lodging, food, and travel expenses, and perhaps the class not hitting your hot button.  But we do need your participation if we are going to continue to offer classes.  Your Education Committee has and continues to work very hard to find just the right teachers offering just the right subject matter.  We all appreciate your input and support.

We are in the process of finalizing next year’s classes.  Mark your calendars for:

  • Cyndi McChesney, June 4 and 5, Working with Panels, Tips and Creation
  • Nancy Mathew, August 14, Mango Tango Table Runner/Quilt
  • Patty Billingsley, September 10 and 11, Master Your Stripology Rulers, small project and Quilt

David Owens Hastings, an art/modern quilter, will be presenting a workshop in Anchorage, June 17 - 19, 2027 (next year).  Website: davidowenshastings.com for details.

Trust you have a safe, sunny, and really good summer.
