Seward News

Many of us in Seward have been (a few still are) patiently wondering if spring will ever arrive this year.  The end of May is fast approaching and many of us still have mounds of snow and ice in our yards.  But as always there is a positive side – with all the snow and ice outside it gives us more sewing and quilting time inside!  Really, who wants to work in the yard and garden in the cold and rain?

Our first of the year Social Sharks sew along was great fun.  With Heather keeping us on track each week, a number of us managed to complete our "shark" quilts in record time.

With many of our gals "snow birding" or busy with other tasks, our annual March Retreat was very small this year, only 9 members were able to attend but we had a great time and with fewer attending we had LOTS of room to spread out.  Many, many laughs and lots of sewing was accomplished.

One of our ongoing projects has been totally amazing.  With about a dozen of our gals involved we have managed to honor 204 of our Seward and Moose Pass area service veterans.  Over the last 3 years, this project has brought tears and heart felt appreciation to many of us in the presentation of a beautiful quilt to the men and women veterans in our area.

As you all know, one of our treasured quilting sisters is leaving us.  Heather has accepted a position with a hospital back in her home state of Arkansas and is leaving the first of June.  She has been a huge inspiration to us all.  Heather is an extremely talented and gifted seamstress and  quilter. She has inspired, encouraged and lead many of us in our sewing and quilting journey these last 8 plus years.  I know that she will continue to participate and encourage us from afar and while we all wish her the very best life has to offer, we will miss her greatly.
