VP/Education Report

By Sue Magyar

As the new VP/Education Chair, I want to say thank you for your support at the meeting in April. It was heartening to have volunteers come forward to offer a hand where needed. Believe me, I have taken down names, and do plan on taking you up on your offers!!

Your Education Committee has been hard at work already. The first meeting had to do with the duties of the Education Chair and the committee: who should be responsible for what, where we could use a helping hand, etc. We also discussed a survey that had been passed around at the October 2022 meeting. Some of the items on the list have been incorporated, and others are being considered.

Here are happenings this year to put on your calendar: Pam Ventgen Class: July 7 & 8 (Friday & Saturday). She will be teaching Abigail's Window. The fee for this two-day class is $90. There is still availability, so if you would like to take this class, please email me (magyar@arctic.net). You won't be registered until you send me your class fee.  Make the check out to KPQG and send to Sue Magyar, PO Box 1617, Seward, AK 99664. When I am in receipt of your $90, I will send you the class requirements.

Nancy Mathew Class: Saturday, August 19th. She will be teaching Sew Easy Strata Star. This one-day class does have homework! The cost for this class is $45. There is still availability for this class as well. Email me at magyar@arctic.net. If you'd like to join, please send your check, payable to KPQG, to Sue Magyar, PO Box 1617, Seward, AK 99664. After receiving your check, I'll send your class requirements and homework assignment.

Not sure, but there may be another class this year yet - stand by for more on that.

Saturday, October 7th is our General Membership meeting. As a rule of thumb, we have had some sort of Education offering after the meeting. This year, we're working on a very fun exchange, so start saving 2 1/2" strips. More details to come in the September Newsletter.

Saturday, October 28th is Getting Ready for the Holidays. Each of the three main areas of the Peninsula (Central, Homer and Seward) will be bringing you a project that will be a quick gift idea for the season of giving. If any of you have a really good idea, talk it over with your area's quilters. They would probably be delighted to have fresh ideas. We'll be talking more about this probably during our October meeting.

Next year, we will have Deb Tucker teaching in July, and RaNae Merrill teaching in August, plus another class with a local teacher. More to come on that.

We are working on other ideas to keep your creative juices flowing and will be bringing those ideas forward through our Newsletter Chair. Your Education Committee is happy to take any suggestions you may have, both on projects and prospective teachers. The Committee members are Barb Steckel, Kathleen Barkley, Donna Glenz, Cathy Howlett, Loraine Murphy, Kris Rutledge, and your president, Heather Johnston.
