Kachemak Bay Quilters

Homer Report

Kachemak Bay Quilters’ Thursday meetings have been “hopping”. Our group has grown, with three new members added in the past four months, giving us more people to enjoy and projects to see! It’s become quite a social group, and as many of us say, “cheap therapy”.

Events:

*Quilts of Valor were presented on November 11 at the Elks Club. It was touching, hearing the service records of three veterans and presenting them with quilts. We are thankful for them. (Two more will receive them later.)

*We are preparing a raffle quilt for the Pratt Museum. Tickets will be on sale soon. Stay tuned.

*We gave three service quilts to a family burned out of their home in Seldovia. Service quilts are an ongoing need, and with our large stash of donated fabric, we’re planning to sew more this winter.

*Homer Hospice has requested knitted leg warmers for their gift boxes, and though we are quilters, a few of us also knit and plan to make some. If you have any interest in donating leg warmers, you can drop them off at the Homer Hospice office on Pioneer.

*Our Teddy Bear project for Haven House needs new teddy bears to wrap in the small quilts that we make. Wrapped bears, cuddly friends, are presented to children in crisis when they are interviewed.
