Past President

By Heather Johnston

In my mind’s eye I can see the snow on the mountains and the temps are dropping at night (or in the day, it is close to fall in the Kenai after all). For those winter quilters it is time to finish up the summer activities and dust out the sewing machine and pull out the projects- what will you work on first? Mine are still packed a year after arriving- they have migrated from a storage unit into my (still being renovated) house. Climate controlled, of course. I do get a chance to sew, mom and I have paired up four or five quilts to go out- I design, and match fabric and she sews them together while I'm working. I then pull out the Tiara and Cutie combo and quilt away.

Early October will bring the General Membership meeting with a show and tell- are you ready for it? Time to renew your membership and sign up for retreat. It is so much fun to gather with a room full of ladies, sewing and talking and sharing ideas, stories, and hints.

Late October brings Getting Ready for the Holidays- three projects that are (hopefully) quick and fun to do several to give as gifts. I know I made 30 odd pillowcases in Christmas fabric a few years ago to give out to my doctors.

Hopefully the snow won't seriously start until after these meetings and the roads will be clear and (maybe) construction free until next spring. The days are cooler in the morning here and the afternoons sometimes are not so muggy. The renovation is moving along- I have the framing up for the 2 closets and the pantry and am putting in more plugs in the craft room for all my machine needs. For those interested in following along, I have a few videos up on my YouTube Channel- Levy Rat Reno. Sporadic for the time being, but I hope to post more frequently come fall. Come watch, like, and subscribe. And leave a comment, it will be fun to hear from you.

Thinking wistfully of my Alaska Gal Pals, Heather.
