Retreat Report

By Patrice Krant & Carol Renfrew

 Hello Retreaters!

We hope you have lovely holidays and that you are looking forward to our 2020 KPQG retreat, February 21-23, as much as we are here in Homer. We have a tiny bit of snow for the moment, but surely it will be a pretty winter scene from Land’s End by the time you get here.

Just a few notes for you at this point:

1. While we have had a couple of moves from the waiting list to the attending list, as of today we have nine ladies on the waiting list. If you are registered and you find that you will not be able to attend, please let Patrice know as soon as you can (pkrant@me.com or 770-826-5016), even if it is after our official deadline for cancellations (January 1).

2. The dimensions on the mystery quilt are 55” X 68”. Apologies that we forgot to include that. To test the directions, a few of us have constructed the quilt, and it is just as easy as we thought and it is very attractive!

3. For the paper-pieced “X” block, to insure the complete block is 12 1/2” square, before sewing the four quadrants together to make the block, only trim each quadrant on the outside cutting line of the two sides that border the center. Then after the four are sewn together into the block, center a 12-1/2" square ruler on the block and trim the outside edges.

Alternatively, square up each of the four small blocks to 6.5” square with a ruler before you sew them together into the large block.

4. The winner of the retreat scholarship, Kathy Wartinbee, is not going to attend, so a second name was pulled. The new winner of the scholarship, which includes registration fee, tee shirt, and two nights lodging, is Janet Bacher of Homer.

So, during these short days and long nights, make your “X” block and floral pinwheel blocks for the block raffle, get started on the mystery quilt if you are going to make it, finish three of those UFOs for Show & Tell, and if you have the time and inclination, make a teddy bear quilt for Haven House.

We look forward to seeing you in February for our 24th annual retreat!
