Our retreat will officially begin on Friday, February 21 and end on Sunday, February 23, 2020. As usual, you will be able to move your sewing equipment into our upstairs meeting room (the Quarterdeck) at Land’s End as early as 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 19.
You must be a paid 2020 member of the Kenai Peninsula Quilt Guild in order to register for and attend the retreat. Also, only registered attendees may set up or sew in the conference room on any day (Wednesday - Sunday).
The 2020 KPQG membership renewal application, as well as the 2020 KPQG retreat registration form, are available in this newsletter and also on the KPQG website.
Guild members who register for the retreat prior to our October 5 general membership meeting will receive their retreat packets that day at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna. If you register for the retreat and cannot attend the meeting, someone may bring your packet to you or we will mail it to you.
In the event that more than 60 paid guild members register for the retreat prior to the start of the October 5 general membership meeting, an impartial member will draw 60 names that day and the others will be put on a waiting list. (Fear not, as most years, everyone on the waiting list gets to attend the retreat.)
Local artist and quilter, Karol Miller of Homer, has designed this year’s tee shirt. We are only placing one tee shirt order, so if you want one or more, please order it on your retreat registration form. Again this year, in addition to our traditional tee styles, there is an option for a short-sleeve tee shirt in a ladies style, with a slightly lower round neck, shorter sleeves, and a slimmer silhouette.
Sew’n Bee Cozy will be our on-site fabric, notions and quilting supplies vendor, and we expect Ulmer’s in Homer will be having one of their fabric sales that week as usual.
The Homer quilters are busily creating welcome gifts, block exchange patterns, and a “modern” mystery quilt that — if you make the HSTs in advance — you can finish while you are at retreat.
Last year, we invited you to bring a teddy bear to donate to Haven House. You responded so well that this year, we invite you to use a couple of your leftover blocks to make and donate a teddy bear quilt. These quilts can be any design and any size between 12” X 12” and 40” X 40”. They will be paired with the bears and given to children at Haven House to comfort them.
