Retreat 2019 Update

By Patrice Krant

Can you believe how quickly our next guild retreat is approaching? By the time you get this, it will be Labor Day. The holidays are just a couple of weeks after that (at least that’s how it feels to one who hasn’t started her holiday sewing!), and before you know it, we will all be driving to Land’s End in Homer for another fabulous weekend of quilting, eating, and socializing.

Our retreat will officially begin on Friday, February 15 and end on Sunday, February 17. As usual, you will be able to move your sewing equipment into our upstairs meeting room (the Quarterdeck) at Land’s End as early as 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 13.

You must be a paid 2019 member of the Kenai Peninsula Quilt Guild in order to register for and attend the retreat. Also, in accordance with our new guideline from the executive committee, no one may set up or sew in the conference room on any day (Wednesday - Sunday) unless they are a registered attendee.

The 2019 KPQG membership renewal application, as well as the 2019 KPQG retreat registration form, are available in this newsletter and also on our website.

Guild members who register for the retreat prior to our October 6 general membership meeting will receive their retreat packets at that meeting at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna. If you register for the retreat and cannot attend this meeting, someone who is at the meeting may bring your packet to you or we will mail it to you.

Due to the electricity capacity constraints in our conference room at Land’s End, we are again limited to just 60 participants at our retreat. In the event that more than 60 paid guild members register for the retreat prior to the October 6 general membership meeting, an impartial member will draw 60 names and the rest will be put on a waiting list.

Dana Lewis is designing this year’s tee shirt. Like last year, we are only placing one tee shirt order, so if you think you will want one, please order it on your retreat registration form. New this year, in addition to our traditional unisex short- and long-sleeve tees, is an option for a short-sleeve tee shirt in a ladies style: a slightly lower round neck, shorter sleeves, and a slimmer silhouette.

Bearly Threaded will be our on-site fabric, notions and quilting supplies vendor, and Ulmer’s in Homer will be having one of their two big annual fabric sales that week.

Alice Krivitsky will be your coach for the mystery quilt this year. I was one of the pattern testers, and I can tell you that it is a beautiful design. (Also, the directions say not to use any directional pattern fabrics, and I can tell you from experience that is very good advice!)

There are instructions for reserving sleeping rooms at Land’s End included in this newsletter. The discounted room rates for the 2019 KPQG retreat are as follows:
