Sharing and Connecting

The Fiber Art Festival in May was an opportunity to connect with a variety of folks who enjoy and use fiber in many ways. KPQG had an informational booth highlighted by sharing our first “Challenge Squares” with the Water theme.

Our challenge squares were then displayed at the “Art Quilts Extraordinaire Exhibit” at the Kenai Fine Arts Center in June. Homer will have them on display in July and Seward in August. They will be returned to their creators at the October meeting. The challenge squares committee of Dani Mains, Tonilyn Spring, Sharon Hale and Karrie Youngblood will be determining the parameters for the 2016 Challenge, which will be announced at the fall meeting.

At the June Executive Board meeting I appointed 2 new chair people. Barb Steckel will be co-chair with Adam Bauer on website/media. Karrie Youngblood was appointed as Member at Large to represent Homer area on the board (Dana Lewis is moving out of state due to family needs). These appointments are to support the connections among all our members.

Another way to share and connect is for the guild to serve as a conduit among the service quilt groups to provide comforting quilts for people who are experiencing challenges and accomplishments in their lives. Communication is vital to provide opportunities and support for all of us and our communities.
