Fast & Fun 3 - Yard Quilts
by Donna Robertson
Fabric Cafe was started as a collaboration between Donna Robertson and her daughter, Fran Morgan, a fiber artist.
After experimenting and exploring various solutions, they created a way to take the work and frustration out of making stacked fabric chenille (sometimes referred to faux chenille). Donna and Fran received assistance from Donna’s Engineer husband, Robert, who worked out the production aspects and Chinelle By The Inch was born. Chenille By the Inch offers fiber artists an easy way to get the look and feel of old-fashioned chenille without the work.
In 2008, in an effort to sell three coordinating fabrics, 3-yard quilts was born. The quilt shop, Nimble Thimble, in Tyler, Texas started carrying patterns by Donna utilizing 3 coordinating yards of fabric. Quilters quickly purchased these easy to follow patterns.
Before too long, 3-yard quilt patterns and books became the top selling items for Fabric Café. By the spring of 2019, Fabric Café was offering over 50, 3-yard quilt patterns and six books with 3-yard patterns. Demand for these easy to follow, quick to complete patterns soon lead to quilt shop demand in many shops. Fabric Café 3-yard patterns can now be found in hundreds of quilt and retail shops.
Each book features 8 quilt designs that are fast and fun! Plus, there are directions to turn each pattern into a lap, twin, or queen/king size quilt.
While visiting in the mid-west last fall, almost all of the quilt stores my friends and I visited featured 3-yard quilt bundles and the coordinating patterns.
