Seward Area Quilters

Many of us here in Seward are still wondering if it will ever warm up enough to melt the rest of this snow before it is time to come again. It sure has been a very cold spring but many of our leaves are finally thinking about opening and turning green. Others of us have given up on even thinking about planting or gardening and are just sewing this “summer”.

We had our annual March Retreat at the Seward Resort with lots of laughs, great food and tons of sewing time. With our crazy busy summer season is upon us (even with the cold weather) we have stopped our weekly quilting get together until September. Although many of us continue to sew and work on our community projects all summer, others of us are just too busy.

Several gals from Seward were able to attend and complete Lily’s bag class last month. The bags turned out beautiful and a ton of fun was had by all.

Our Veteran and Seniors community projects continue to keep us busy making tops, quilting and presenting. We have presented well over 230 Veteran quilts to our local Veterans and 69 senior quilts to our local seniors. Several of us have been busy making baby quilts to be presents to the Clare House in Anchorage in loving memory of a young Seward lady.

One very special Senior Quilt presentation was accomplished at our end of season gathering at the end of March. We were able to present a beautiful senior quilt to one of our original Guild founding members, Joyce Simpson. She has been a huge quilting and sewing inspiration to all of us over the last 30 years, it was an honor to recognize her as one of our amazing seniors.

Hope to see many of you at one or all the wonderful classes planned over the summer.

Happy Quilting Everyone!
